The Devil's Head and Gold

There were multiple bombing on the promenade in Dahab ("Gold"), Egypt yesterday. Back in October there were bombings in Ras Al-Shaitan ("Devil's head") in Egypt. I spent considerable time in both places when I lived in Egypt. When Ariel came to visit me, we spent a few days in Dahab--strolling along that very promenade and interacting with the locals. When tragic events happen in places I have been, it always resonates more. Perhaps it is because I can picture the place, the smells, the sounds, and imagine the horrible events as they unravel. I wonder too who are these people that are committing these terrible acts-whether they are everyday people that I perhaps shared words with, a handshake, or even a glance...
